The objects for which the Association is established:
*To be the recognized representative organization of the CARICOM Poultry Industry Producers and Associated Industries.

*To promote the development, growth and expansion of the CARICOM Poultry Industry and to encourage the growth and development of economic linkages and Agribusiness in the CARICOM Region through the provision of technical assistance, business guidance, networking, procurement of credit, the establishment of strategic alliances, economic assistance and services to operators in the Poultry Industry and associated activities.

Regional Response
This situation has demanded a regional response. It now appears that regionalization of an important sub-sector of the Agricultural Sector at Macro level is being promoted as a survival mechanism to restrain, to some degree, unfettered globalization which has the economic clout to wreak destruction on the highly vulnerable economies of CARICOM states. Regional cooperation of the poultry producers is the only vehicle now available to strengthen the national sub-sectors of the Agricultural Sectors into a cohesive force before it is dismantled by the North American Colossus. Regional cooperation is the insurance policy for poultry producers as the countdown to the next millennium begins.

A Strategy For Regional Cooperation
The challenge of globalization, development and poverty alleviation require that all development partners, resources and capacities are mobilized. The private sector is increasingly seen as an engine of growth, wealth and development. Recognizing this, a network of Caribbean poultry producers from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and The Bahamas came together with the intention of promoting cooperation among producers at the regional level. The intention was to establish an entity to articulate the interests of poultry producers in the various regional institutions and fora because it was apparent that the flow of information was still deficient. There are few structural channels for communication and dialogue between business entities and governments among CARICOM member states.

The producers in the agricultural sector in many or most CARICOM member states are facing situations, which could destroy their industries. In order to resolve their problems, the producers have come together to create an institution to project its interests and to bring its concerns to the relevant negotiation bodies.

The group came together at the International Poultry Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, in January of 1999.

The Caribbean Poultry Association will play the following roles:
(A) Promoting dialogue.

The Association will provide a new platform for dialogue among CARICOM poultry producers. This dialogue will help foster linkage and strategic alliances among the various producers in the region and coordinate the formulation of common positions for the negotiation process. Those dialogue activities will be organized at the national and regional levels through the appropriate negotiation bodies.

(B) Articulating interests at the national and regional levels.

By way of proactive approach, the Association will seek to provide constructive input at the national level for each member country and at the CARICOM regional level. The Association will identify and promote the attributes of the Caribbean based poultry industry.

(C) Networking and Constituency Building.

Producers in their respective countries will promote the Association as an effective structure through networking as well as build new constituency bases through their national bodies.
