| Title: Recovery of Mined-out Bauxite Soils for Goat Production in the Mocho Area of Clarendon, Jamaica Location: Mocho, Clarendon, Jamaica Date: 2001-2005 (5 years) Executing/collaborating agencies: Jamaica Bauxite Institute (JBI), JAMALCO, IICA Funding agency: JBI Financing: J$20 million Description: The overall objective of the project is to increase the production and productivity of goats in the Mocho area of Clarendon in support of national self-sufficiency, foreign exchange earnings/savings and employment creation. The project will introduce the modern appropriate technologies associated with goat production and will improve the managerial and technical capabilities of farmers and technical officers associated with the project. Title: JBI/Walkerswood Caribbean/WINDALCO/IICA Agricultural Support Project Location: Walkerswood, St. Ann, Jamaica Date: 2002-June 2004 Executing/collaborating agencies: Jamaica Bauxite Institute (JBI), Walkerswood Caribbean Foods Ltd., WINDALCO, RADA, IICA Funding agency: JBI Financing: J$4 million Description: IICA has been selected, by the JBI, to implement a project out of an Agreement between JBI, WINDALCO and Walkerswood to produce spices on recovered mined-out lands. The project will organize farmers and assist them, in collaboration with RADA, to set up the field and introduce a drip irrigation system that will increase yields and expand the planting season for some of the introduced crops. Title: Strengthening the Competitive Advantage of Primary Producers, Focussing on Rural Women in Agriculture Location: Islandwide Date: January 2003 – June 2004 (18 months) Collaborating agencies: Jamaica Agricultural Development Foundation (JADF), Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), Jamaica Network of Rural Women Producers (JNRWP), Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), RADA, IICA Funding agency: Caribbean Regional Human Resource Development Program for Economic Competitiveness (CPEC) Financing: CDN$179,949.00 Description: The project seeks to educate and train rural women involved in agriculture, farmers, processors and extension officers, to increase their competitiveness for local and export production/processing by institutionalizing and promoting the utilization of technological advancement, best management practices and compliance with new trade arrangements of the WTO.
