Networks and Centres


The Jamaica Network of Rural Women Producers (JNRWP) was established by IICA in May 1999, under the patronage of The First Lady of Jamaica, Her Excellency, The Most Honourable Lady Cooke and in collaboration with the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA). IICA operates as the Secretariat of the JNRWP. The overall goal of the network is to equip women to become self-reliant thereby empowering them to improve their socio-economic status.

The Jamaica Agricultural Documentation and Information Network (JADIN) was established in 1999 by IICA in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture. This network is the Jamaica arm of the SIDALC - IICA’s Agricultural Information and Documentation System for the Americas. The Ministry of Agriculture Information & Documentation Services Unit serves as the Focal Point of JADIN and IICA as the supporting Secretariat. The overall goal of the network is to facilitate the exchange of information and resources in support of agricultural and rural development, through collaboration, training and the use of appropriate technologies and expertise.

The Jamaica Agricultural Forum of Youth (JAFY) was officially launched on May 2, 2003 by the IICA Office in Jamaica, in collaboration with the Jamaica 4-H Clubs.  The forum was established to assist in advancing the participation of Jamaican youth in the economic development of Jamaica. JAFY will form an umbrella organization/forum for uniting youth in agriculture and promoting the involvement of youth in agriculture. The IICA Office will serve as the Technical Secretariat of the youth forum. JAFY is the local arm of IICA's Caribbean Agricultural Forum of Youth (CAFY) which has also established chapters in Barbados, Dominica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago.

The Agri-Distance Learning and Training Centre (ADLTC) was established in October 2000 at the office in Hope Gardens. The centre offers training in the various areas of agriculture through multimedia courses on CD-ROM and via the Internet. The objective of the Centre is to develop solid cadres of professional, technicians and managers who can lead the economic diversification and technological modernization process that is aimed at enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of the agricultural and rural sector in Jamaica.
